Glossary: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
(PCI or Angioplasty or Balloon Angioplasty) This procedure is when there is a balloon within the catheter passed into the coronary arteries during a diagnostic Angiogram. The balloon is placed within the blockage in the artery and expanded creating a pathway for the blood and oxygen flow to continue within the coronary artery being treated. For more information visit our page on angioplasty or discuss with your cardiologist prior to the procedure.
